MANILA — Opposition lawmakers on Friday slammed what they call a “swift decision” by a Las Pinas Regional Trial Court, exonerating Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla’s son, Juanito Jose Remulla III, of drug charges, filed three months ago in the month of October 2022.
The younger Remulla got himself in hot water after authorities nabbed him over a drug shipment involving a kilo of high-grade marijuana known as Kush.
Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman expressed his frustration on the swift acquittal of the younger Remulla, saying that former senator Leila de Lima has been waiting for justice for almost a decade now and still justice seems elusive he said.
“It is grossly unfortunate that the exoneration of a Remulla scion was swift but the liberation of former Sen. Leila de Lima is stranded in the dark tunnel of injustice,” Lagman said.
Former Bayan Muna party-list Representative executive vice president Carlos Isagani Zarate said that the hearing in Remulla’s case took only three months compared to those who have been in jail for decades.
“Di tuloy natin masisi ang karamihan sa ating mga kababayan na mag-isip na ang batas at hustisya sa Pilipinas ay nakakiling sa mga mayayaman at makapangyarihan samantalang ginagamit naman laban sa mga mahihirap at inaapi,” Zarate said.
“As it is, making the rule of justice reign in our country is a continuing struggle and challenge still for our people and all the stakeholders of our skewed justice system,” he added.
