CEBU CITY — In line with Mayor Mike Rama’s daring vision to transform this reputed Queen City of the South similar to the Lion City Singapore, the country’s first large-scale waste-to-energy (WTE) facility worth P4.8 billion will soon rise in the mountain barangay of Guba.
Councilor Joel Garganera, the environment committee chairman, has revealed that the seven-hectare property in Barangay Guba was chosen by New Sky Energy Philippines Inc. due to its accessibility and proximity to water and electric supply.
He added that the proponent is now waiting for permits from various government offices to start the project.
However, a public hearing will still be conducted in the affected community before Rama will give his final approval for the WTE construction, Garganera bared.
To recall, in September last year, the Cebu City Government and New Sky Energy Philippines Inc. entered into a joint-venture agreement for the construction of the P4.8-billion facility that will be capable of processing 800 tons of garbage per day. (ai/mtvn)
