PCUP seeks possible ties with Philippine Red Cross

MANILA – The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP), under chairman Undersecretary Elpidio R. Jordan, Jr. made a courtesy visit at the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) headquarters in Mandaluyong City last January 10, 2023, and discussed with former senator and PRC chairman Dick Gordon on the possibility of working together for the benefit of the urban poor.

The meeting was initiated by PCUP to explore the possibility of collaboration with the PRC and to discuss the programs and services that the latter can extend to uplift the current plight of the marginalized sector in the country.

Jordan said that this move will create many opportunities in terms of disaster management, volunteer service, emergency response, and other life-saving services that protect life and dignity, especially of the urban poor communities in vulnerable situations.

“I have always believed in the holistic approach of the Philippine Red Cross to uplift the condition of the needy, most especially the urban poor. In their 75 years in service, they were able to deliver with pure intentions and it is to help more people,” Jordan said.

Also present during the exploratory meeting was PRC Secretary General Ms. Gwendolyn Pang, PRC Officer–in–charge for Safety Services Mr. Jaylord Abrigado, PRC NBS Director Ms. Christie Monina Nalupta, PRC Executive Asst. under Office of the Chairman Ms. Iny Samson & Ms. Carla Acevedo, PCUP Special Assistant for Internal and External Affairs Mr. Jimmy Uy, and Project and Policy Development Unit head Yvelen Moraña.

Red Cross and PCUP are expected to sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) in the next few weeks year once the collaboration process has been finalized. (ai/mtvn)
