MANILA — Accused of murder over the October 2019 killing of a vice mayor in Masbate, former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board member Sandra Cam, her son, and five others were acquitted on Monday by the Manila Regional Trial Court.
Dismayed with the court decision, Batuan, Masbate Mayor Charmax Jan Yuson — son of slain vice mayor Charlie Yuson III — said they will ask for reconsideration.
Based on the Super Radyo dzBB report, the Manila RTC Branch 42 said the prosecution failed to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Judge Dinah Aguila-Topacio penned the decision.
Cam legal counsel Atty. Buenaventura Miranda said they would like to receive a copy of the decision within the day for the release of the accused.
To recall, on October 9, 2019, the elder Yuson was shot dead by unidentified men while having breakfast outside a house in Sampaloc, Manila. His companion Alberto Alforte IV was wounded in the attack.
The slain victim’s wife Lalaine had alleged that the Cams were involved in the killing of her husband, because their son, Charmax Jan Yuson, defeated Marco Martin in the May 2019 mayoral election in Batuan.
The Cams have strongly denied the accusations. (ai/mtvn)
