MANILA — The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, led by Sen. Francis Tolentino, said that there was an overpricing in the procurement of P979 million laptops by the Department of Education (DepEd) for teachers.
In the committee report released, former DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones was acquitted, although she was scolded for the negligence that happened.
At the same time, the Senate panel recommended the filing of graft charges against DepEd officials who were directly involved in the purchase of overpriced laptops.
It can be recalled that many teachers complained about the low quality of laptops distributed during the height of the pandemic.
The blue ribbon committee began looking into DepEd’s purchase of “outdated and expensive” computers through PS-DBM in August 2022.
