MANILA — Agriculture Deputy Spokesperson Rex Estoperez said the confiscated smuggled sugar will be sold for P70 per kilo in Kadiwa stores if President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. agrees to the recommendation of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA).
“They are selling at P70 (kada kilo) at the SRA. The price of white sugar is P90 to P105, yung brown, P85, P86, bumababa ng konti pero depende sa source. Nakikita natin na dapat stable din ang supply para stable ang prices,” Estoperez said.
SRA Administrator David Alba earlier said he will recommend to Marcos the sale of smuggled sugar at Kadiwa centers, including the P240 million worth of sugar confiscated at the Batangas port.
Estoperez added that the SRA is also contacting the Department of Finance (DOF) to obtain clearance to sell the confiscated sugar.
“It has to be cleared with the DOF as the BOC (Bureau of Customs) is under DOF. Inaayos na po ang seizure order doon saka pa lamang itetest ng SRA kapag okay na siya saka natin dadalhin sa mga outlets,” the official said.
