MOP celebrates Chinese New Year with a rare Rabbitfishes exhibit

MANILA — The Manila Ocean Park (MOP) celebrated on Saturday, the Lunar New Year with a special exhibit featuring 1088 Rabbitfishes, so-called because of its unique rabbit-like snouts.

The Rabbitfishes are considered the “Chinese New Year Fish” as they are in their reproductive season during the coming of the new moon of the Lunar New Year, making them a symbol of good luck and all-year-round prosperity.

In part, Rabbitfishes correlate with the coming of the Year of the Water Rabbit (2023), the Zodiac symbol in the Chinese Lunar Calendar starting Sunday, 22 January 2023, in time for the Chinese New Year.

The MOP is located at the Quirino Grandstand, in Malate, Manila.
