MANILA — The Department of Health-Ilocos Regional has given away a total of P89,000 cash prizes for the winners of the dance competition during the “KaHeartner Campaign” conducted on February 20, 2029, at the Saint Louis College (SLC) in San Fernando City, La Union.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that the dance competition was held to further advocate the significance of the campaign to students which is to create awareness of cardiovascular diseases and promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
“Teenagers and young adults aged 14–18 is now at risk of heart diseases because of sedentary lifestyle which is a growing a concern due to the increasing attraction to smart phones and tablets and internet. Nakakalimutan na nila ang paglalaro sa labas ng bahay at pag-ehersisyo dahil pagkagising ay nakahawak na sa kanilang mga gadgets.”
“That is why it is very important to focus on prevention and emphasize the importance of fitness and exercise while they are young,” Sydiongco encouraged.
The dance competition was opened to all students of high school and college within the province of La Union only with 7-15 members. The dance theme was KaHeartner: Move More!! Eat Right!!
A total of nine (9) groups from various schools joined the dance contest.
The Intensified Ventures dance group (La Union National High School) bagged the first prize with ₱25,000; Felkris dance group (Felkris Academy Inc.) received the second place with ₱15,000 cash prize; and Lagtaw Dance Troupe (Don Eulogio De Guzman Memorial National High School) won the third place with ₱13,000 in cash.
Cash of ₱6,000 each was given as a consolation prize to Sanduli Dance Troupe (Lorma College), LZDS Dance Troupe) Lord of Zion Divine School Inc.), LHS Dance Troupe (Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – South La Union Campus), Cadeceus (Union Christian College), BPED Dance Troupe (Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – College of Education), and the Aringay National High School Dance Group.
