“Tax incentives given by the Palace for the importation of electric powered vehicles should cover all modes of transportation, especially those that ordinary workers and students use for daily commuting. Specifically, motorcycles.”
MAYNILA – International think-tank at research organization na ‘Stratbase ADR Institute,’ nanawagan na ibilang sa tax breaks ang electric motorcycles matapos itong hindi maisama sa inamyendang taripa sa Electric Vehicles.
Ito’y matapos na malaman ng organisasyon na hindi kasama ang electric motorcycles sa listahan ng mga EVs na makatatanggap ng 0% import duty sa ilalim ng Executive Order No. 12 series of 2023, sa unang limang taon, na naglalayong matulungan ang bansa sa pagpapakilala ng electric vehicles.
Nakatakdang pababain ng naturang EO ang taripa para sa mga EV, mula sa 5 hanggang 30 porsyento papunta sa 0% upang matulungan ang bansa na gumamit ng e-vehicles at magbawas ng carbon emissions.
Sinabi ni Stratbase President Prof. Dindo Manhit na ang tax breaks ay dapat maipatupad sa lahat ng uri ng EVs lalo na sa mga motorsiklo gayong sinasaklaw nito ang karamihan sa mga motorista ng bansa.
Dinagdag pa niya na dapat maging inklusibo ang EO dahil motorsiklo ang ginagamit ng mga ordinaryong manggagawa at estudyante sa kanilang pang-araw-araw na transportasyon. Samantalang ang four-wheeled vehicles ay kadalasan umanong ginagamit ng mga indibidwal na may malalaking kita.
Naitala ng Land Transportation Office noong 2021 na mahigit 8 milyong units ng motorsiklo ang naka-rehistro sa kanilang ahensya.
“Millions of working Filipinos opt for two and three-wheel vehicles because of their income limitations. They are the most vulnerable to the increase in prices of fuel and other basic commodities. Making electric motorcycles more affordable means no more worries [about] spiking petroleum prices and pollution-free transportation for the masses,” saad ni Manhit sa isang pahayag sa Facebook page ng kanilang organisasyon.
“Stratbase thus urges President Marcos Jr. to amend EO12 to expand its coverage to two and three-wheel electric vehicles. Becoming a dominantly electric vehicle country is an exciting prospect that the government must pursue,” pagtatapos ng presidente.
