BORBON, Cebu – Saying that a wharf in this municipality will serve as a key to having an economic zone alongside modern agribusiness, reelected Mayor Noel T. Dotillos has disclosed that a P120-million pier will soon be constructed that would primarily link the town to Region 8.

In an exclusive interview, Dotillos told Maharlika TV that the P120-million pier will serve as an initial step for his vision to eventually build an international port and put up industries alongside developed agriculture aimed to uplift the quality of living of Borbonanons.

“We will build a large port in our reclamation site and this will initially link Cebu in Region 7 with the islands of Region 8,” Dotillos said.

He added that they are now laying the groundwork for the reclamation of a large area that will be the site of the pier.

The coastal town of Borbon is about 80 kilometers north of Cebu City on the island of Cebu under Region 7 or Central Visayas and fronting the Region 8 islands, notably Samar, Leyte, and Biliran.

Region 8 or Eastern Visayas has six provinces, one independent city, and one highly urbanized city, namely, Biliran, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Ormoc, and Tacloban.

“We intend the Borbon pier to become an international port later and we will be inviting investors and putting up an economic zone just like in Subic,” Dotillos further bared.

Meanwhile, with the signing into law of the establishment of state-funded Cebu Technological University in this municipality, the Borbonanons profusely thanked Dotillos for donating two hectares of his personal property in Barangay Cadaruhan where the CTU campus will be constructed.

On April 27, 2022, Republic Act (RA) 11751, principally authored by reelected Cebu 5th District Rep. Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco, was signed into law by the President establishing CTU campuses in Borbon and Liloan. (Amado Inigo/MTVN)
