MANILA — Militant group United Filipino Consumers and Commuters (UFCC) on Saturday staged a lightning picket at the Boy Scout Rotunda in Quezon City
to protest the reloaded Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between the Philippines and the United States saying that the revival of the military pact could possibly spark a war against China which is continuously encroaching on PH territory in the West Philippine Sea.
The group said it is more popular, right, and just for the Marcos government to focus on and prioritize peace and economic security instead of pushing and strengthening EDCA.
It may be recalled that only last February 1, 2023, the Philippines and the US announced plans to accelerate the full implementation of EDCA with the agreement to designate four new Agreed Locations in strategic areas of the country and the substantial completion of the projects in the existing five Agreed Locations.
Several “Balikatan” military exercises are also set next month for the Armed Forces of the Philippines and their US counterparts.
