Party-List Coalition Foundation affirms strong support in favor of con-con assembly for Charter amendments

MANILA — The Party-List Coalition Foundation Incorporated (PLCFI) this week released a press statement affirming its strong support in favor of the Resolution of Both Houses No. 6, which calls on the 19th Congress to convene a constitutional convention for the proposed Charter amendments.

“The decision of our bloc to support the said resolution is an important step in generating discussions on the possible amendments to our 1987 Consitution, more particularly on its restrictive economic provisions which place the Philippines in rank 89 out of 176 countries on The Heritage Foundation’s 2023 Index of Economic Freedom report,” Rep. Jude Acidre of Tingog Party-List, who also serves PLCFI spokesperson, said.

“We thank the steadfast leadership of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez for initiating the discussion and facilitating the passage of this important resolution which opens for a review of our Constitution.”

The whole text of PLCFI’s press statement is as follows:

“The Constitution is the fundamental law of the land upon which all laws must conform.

It is only imperative that our laws as well as the institutions that keep them must keep pace with the changing needs of our time.

While amending the Constitution is not a panacea to development, it may facilitate generating solutions for the current social ills pervading our country.

By commencing the process to review the Constitution, we heed the call of our constituents – our bosses, to do more to alleviate their plight and accelerate our efforts toward national progress.”
