BATANGAS City — The Committee on Higher and Technical Education (CHTE) of the House of Representatives staged its second Town Hall Meeting (THM) with State Universities and Colleges recently hosted here by the Batangas State University, which is also known as The National Engineering University in the country.
The Town Hall Meeting was presided by Congressman Mark O. Go, CHTE Chairperson, joined by Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) and President of Batangas State University, together with Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada, EDCOM2 Chief Legal Officer, and other PASUC National Officers.
Actively participated by Presidents and official representatives from the 114 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the country, the THM discussed the current situation of the public HEIs and important interventions to the pressing concerns and other common challenges of SUCs in fulfilling its mandate of providing access to quality higher education.
“The Second House Committee on Higher and Technical Education Town Hall Meeting was a meeting of the minds with presidents and representatives of 114 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) at Batangas State University,” said Cong. Go.
“As Chairperson of the Committee, I want to gain a deeper understanding of the perspectives and concerns of our education leaders first-hand to further strengthen our legislative agenda,” Go added.
“We had a highly productive discourse, and I am pleased to report that we have successfully established action items. We continue our commitment to being an ally of SUCs in Congress who are in charge of delivering free quality tertiary education across the country (R.A.10931).”

The first THM was on April 13, 2023 at the Philippine Normal University. In attendance were presidents and representatives from various teacher education institutions (TEIs) in the Philippines, both in the public and private sectors.
