MANILA — Rexlon Gatchalian has been officially approved as the Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) by the Commission on Appointments (CA).

In addition to Gatchalian’s confirmation, the CA has also approved the ad interim appointments of 50 high-ranking officials in the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Among them are Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura, who serves as the AFP deputy chief of staff, and Vice Admiral Adaci Toribio Jr., the flag officer in command of the Philippine Navy.

Following the CA’s decision, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Gatchalian as the DSWD secretary. This appointment came after the CA bypassed the former DSWD chief, broadcaster Erwin Tulfo.

During the confirmation process, Rep. Greg Gasataya, the chairman of the CA Committee on Labor, Employment, Social Welfare, and Migrant Workers, sponsored Gatchalian’s confirmation. Gasataya highlighted Gatchalian’s understanding of the necessary leadership and innovative approaches required in the field of social work. (Amado Inigo/MTVN)
