MANILA — On Friday, Vice President Sara Duterte made the announcement of her resignation from the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party.

In a statement, Duterte emphasized that her election was a result of the trust placed in her by the Filipino people to lead and serve the country.

She expressed her concern about political toxicity and power games, stating that they should not tarnish or undermine the trust given to her.

While expressing her gratitude to all party members for their support, Duterte acknowledged the potential for unity in pursuing the shared aspirations for the Filipino people and the nation.

Duterte reassured her unwavering commitment to serving Filipinos and the Philippines under the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. She emphasized the immutability of her word and dedication.

Furthermore, Duterte called upon all leaders to prioritize the tasks at hand and work towards leaving behind a lasting legacy of a strong and stable homeland.

Having served as the party chairman of Lakas-CMD since December 2021, Duterte utilized the party as a platform for her vice-presidential campaign.

However, she will continue to hold the position of chairman in her indigenous party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago. (ai/mtvn)
