MANILA – The late Senator Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr. must be turning in his grave as the feisty ex-president Rodrigo Duterte has renamed the party he founded during the dark years of dictatorship of Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Sr. by dropping the word “Laban” and by simply calling it PDP.
Political pundits told Maharlika NuMedia that the PDP could be the acronym for President Duterte’s Party, either referring to the former president or the anticipated presidency of Inday Sara Duterte in 2028.
No longer Partido ng Demoktatikong Pilipino, the political observers averred.
It was learned that the removal od the word “Laban” from the party’s name was one of the two constitutional amendments approved by party members during their meeting held in Cebu City last Friday (19 April 2024).
There was no immediate reaction from Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III as of this posting.
