MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts that 38 areas across the country will experience danger-level heat indices on Monday (20 May 2024).
PAGASA reports that the heat index, which represents what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature, could reach up to 46°C in the following locations:
Sangley Point, Cavite
Virac (Synop), Catanduanes
Roxas City, Capiz
Catarman, Northern Samar
Areas expected to have heat indices of 44°C to 45°C include:
Iba, Zambales
Legazpi City, Albay
Guiuan, Eastern Samar
Casiguran, Aurora
Cubi Point, Subic Bay, Olongapo City
Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas
San Jose, Occidental Mindoro

Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur
Areas with expected heat indices of 42°C to 43°C include:
Science Garden, Quezon City, Metro Manila
Dagupan City, Pangasinan
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
ISU Echague, Isabela
Coron, Palawan
Puerto Princesa City, Palawan

Davao City, Davao Del Sur
Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte
When the heat index is within the danger level range of 41°C to 51°C, heat cramps, and heat exhaustion are likely, and prolonged sun exposure could result in heat stroke.
Meanwhile, PAGASA indicated that a shear line affecting extreme Northern Luzon would cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes, potentially leading to flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.
The rest of the country will experience fair weather with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies, with light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas prevailing across the archipelago.
