BOC-Deputy Commissioner Ronnel Hombre shares insights on modernizing customs processes with LPU customs students

MANILA — A significant event took place at the General Assembly of the Philippine Society of Customs Administration Students-Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila Chapter (PSCAS LPU), where the Bureau of Customs (BOC), represented by Deputy Commissioner Ronnel B. Hombre from the Management Information System and Technology Group (MISTG), shared insights on modernizing customs processes.
In his presentation titled “Risk Management and Fraud Detection: Enhancing Customs Processes Through Artificial Intelligence,” Deputy Commissioner Hombre discussed the pivotal role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and machine learning in modernizing customs operations. He highlighted how these technologies help improve risk assessment and combat illicit trade. His talk also featured insights from the World Customs Organization (WCO) Smart Customs Survey (July 2024) and the BOC’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen cybersecurity and threat intelligence response systems.
PSCAS LPU expressed their gratitude, stating, “His presence and contributions to our General Assembly were truly invaluable. We are deeply thankful for the wealth of knowledge he generously shared, which has ignited within us a renewed determination to strive for excellence in all our endeavors.”
The BOC, under the leadership of Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio, remains committed to actively engaging with academic institutions, fostering innovation, and preparing the next generation of customs professionals.
