CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal — At least three (3) members of the Milisyang Bayan (MB) surrendered on Monday last week even as a supporter of the CPP-NPA-NDF allegedly withdrew his allegiance to the communist party.

The San Francisco Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, with support from the 85th Infantry “Sandiwa” Battalion, San Francisco PNP, and Quezon PNP, facilitated the surrender of three MB members from Sitio Labrahan, Brgy Butanguiad, and Sitio Payaw, Brgy Cawayan 2, as well as the formal renouncement of support by one resident from Sitio Cayuma in Brgy Cawayan 1.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong, Commander of the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division, remarked that these developments signify the ongoing decline of the communist movement in their area of responsibility.

He added that the surrenderees and withdrawal of support of one demonstrate the effectiveness of collaborative efforts among various TF-ELCAC units, the security sector, key stakeholders, and communities in addressing the root causes of insurgency and promoting peace and development in Quezon.

He commended the bravery of those who chose to abandon armed struggle and embrace peace, urging remaining rebels to follow suit and pursue the path towards peace and progress to live peacefully with their loved ones.

Issued on Monday (19 Feb 2024), the press release was authenticated by Lt. Col. Hector Estolas (INF) PA, chief of the Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID).
