MANILA — Justice Secretary Boying Remulla said on Monday (Oct. 21, 2024) that Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio’s remarks against the Marcoses were “very disturbing.”
“Very disturbing for a person of her rank, the second highest official in the land. The remarks are unbecoming,” Remulla said when asked about his reaction to Duterte-Carpio’s recent statements.
Duterte-Carpio previously commented that she would dig up former President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s grave and throw it into the West Philippine Sea.
Moreover, Remulla said the Department of Justice (DOJ) is reviewing the legal implications of the Vice President’s statement.
“It desecrates the memory of a person. It disturbs the peaceful state that he must be in, having already passed away, to disturb the body.”
“There are many other moral principles being violated, and we’re also looking into the legal aspects. We’re conducting a study,” Remulla added.

MANILA — Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Boying Remulla on Thursday (22 Aug 2024) confirmed that Sheila Guo, sister of dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, and Cassandra Ong, linked to Lucky South 99 Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in Porac, Pampanga, are now in the custody of Indonesian authorities.
Remulla stated that the two associates of the former town mayor will be sent back to the Philippines.
“They are passport holders, and we suspect that these passports were obtained fraudulently or through fraudulent means. Therefore, we have grounds to bring them back,” the DOJ chief explained.
Remulla also noted that the incident in Indonesia indicates a connection between the POGOs in Bamban, Tarlac, and Porac, Pampanga.
“We have identified a definite connection between Alice Guo and Cassandra Li Ong, which suggests that Bamban and Porac are closely linked,” he said.
The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) had earlier revealed a photograph showing the former mayor at Kuala Lumpur airport with a companion, boarding a flight to Singapore on July 21.

MANILA — Justice Secretary Jesus “Boying” Crispin Remulla on Saturday (11 Feb 2024) “firmly asserted” that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has no jurisdiction over the Philippines.
“Our nation, as a sovereign entity, possesses the inherent right to determine our own legal framework and address internal matters without any interference from external bodies,” Remulla said.
Remulla mentioned that the Philippines has withdrawn from the Rome Statute, an agreement that established ICC.
“The country’s withdrawal from the ICC clearly showcases our unwavering commitment to upholding national sovereignty and preserving the integrity of our justice system,” he said.
“We have consistently demonstrated our preparedness, willingness, and capability to thoroughly investigate and prosecute crimes committed within our jurisdiction, ensuring that justice prevails for all our citizens.”
Remulla emphasized that presence of international bodies within the Philippines must adhere to our Constitution and relevant laws.
Meanwhile, the Justice Secretary assured that under his leadership, the Department of Justice would be dedicated to adhere to principles of justice and the rule of law.
“The welfare and protection of every Filipino citizen lie at the core of our mission, and we will relentlessly defend their rights regardless of beliefs or creed. Our system has proven its efficacy, and we will never forsake the victims,” Remulla said.
