MANILA — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao announced on Wednesday (20 March 2024) the temporary suspension of trekking activities in Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP) due to the El Niño phenomenon.
In a Facebook post by DENR-Davao, it stated that the suspension would be effective from March 20 to March 30 this year, following MANP-Protected Area Management Board Executive Committee Resolution No. 1, series of 2024, which was enacted on March 19.
“This precautionary measure is essential to mitigate the risk of bushfires and ensure the well-being of the park’s diverse ecosystems,” DENR-Davao said.
“The decision to resume activities will be carefully considered based on the assessments and recommendations provided by the MANP Protected Area Management Offices of both Region XI and Region XII.”
Meanwhile, those who have made reservations during the affected dates should reach out to their organizers to arrange for alternative schedules.
