Patrick Dempsey has been crowned People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, relinquishing the title from last year’s honoree, Chris Evans, known for his role as “Captain America.”

The exciting announcement took place during the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” show on Tuesday night.

The 57-year-old actor, renowned for his role as “McDreamy” in the popular TV series “Grey’s Anatomy” and his passion for race car driving, reacted to the news with humility.

He confessed, “I’ve always been the bridesmaid! I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”

Dempsey is set to appear in the upcoming Michael Mann film “Ferrari,” in which he handled all of the driving himself, describing it as “the best role I’ve ever had.”

Notably, he has participated in various professional races, including the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans, and is affiliated with the Wright Motorsports racing team.

In response to his selection, Dempsey humorously anticipated the reactions of his three children, who are likely to tease him and find every reason to question his Sexiest Man Alive status.

Beyond his Hollywood career and racing endeavors, Dempsey established the Dempsey Center, an organization based in Maine that offers support and resources to cancer patients, inspired by the memory of his late mother.

Dempsey became a heartthrob through his portrayal of Dr. Derek Shepherd, affectionately known as “McDreamy,” in “Grey’s Anatomy,” a role he portrayed in over 250 episodes.

In “Ferrari,” he takes on the character of Italian race car driver Piero Taruffi, and the film is slated for release in theaters later this year, with special accommodations to promote it amidst an ongoing actors’ strike.

Patrick Dempsey now joins the ranks of past Sexiest Man Alive recipients, including Michael B. Jordan, John Legend, Paul Rudd, Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, and Mel Gibson, who was the inaugural recipient of the title in 1985.

The People magazine edition featuring Dempsey’s cover story will be available this Friday.
