PARAÑAQUE City 2nd District Representative Gustavo Tambunting filed a measure that will integrate computer science in the curriculum of the enhanced Basic Education Program.

Under House Bill 4042 or the proposed Computer Science in Schools Act, computer science, computer literacy, and information and communication technology shall become parts of the basic subjects offered to students at all levels beginning in kindergarten.

Tambunting said it is important to ensure that the general population is reoriented and fully prepared for a world where technology is omnipresent.

“Computer science has been linked with higher rates of college enrolment and improved problem-solving abilities among students globally,” he said in his explanatory note.

He added that computer science is an important element in strengthening education models and preparing students for the future.

The proposed law will further revise the K-12 program to create a Computer Science and Information and Communications Technology strand under the Academic Track offered to Senior High School students.
