MANILA — The Philippines’ prominent sour soup known as Sinigang is included in the 100 Best Dishes in the World for the year 2023, ranking in 97th place based on the international encyclopedia for local and traditional food, Tasteatlas.

Sinigang is a Filipino traditional soup that consists of sampalok, water spinach, cabbage, eggplant, tomato, ginger, and more. Its broth was usually made up of water used for rice washing that has a souring agent on it.

We often see Sinigang with the main ingredient of pork, bangus, shrimp, chicken, or beef. Yet, as time goes by, various regions in the country have adapted and experimented to make their version of Sinigang using mango and guava.

This dish is often available in local Filipino restaurants and it has rice as an accompaniment. It can also be seen in special occasions such as fiestas, birthdays, reunions, and more.

Meanwhile, Sinigang is also ranked 17th place in the Top 100 Soups in the World with a rate of 4.5 stars, according to the Tasteatlas.

“With its sour lightness perfectly matching the harsh tropical heat of the country, Sinigang is a unique soup that is a true representative of Filipino cuisine.” the world’s food encyclopedia said.
