MANILA — In a dazzling display of creativity and homage to Philippine mythology, Miss Philippines Yllana Marie Aduana graced the stage at the Miss Earth 2023 pageant in Vietnam, adorned in a national costume inspired by “Maria Makiling.”

Aduana’s choice to pay tribute to the mythological goddess associated with the protective spirit of Mount Makiling held significant personal meaning, as the majestic mountain is situated in her home province of Laguna.

Crafted with a sustainable touch, Aduana’s national costume featured predominantly recycled materials, including intricately cut food containers transformed into leaf-like structures. The green skirt-like component of her ensemble artfully mirrored the renowned contours of Luzon’s Mount Makiling.

A licensed medical laboratory scientist and professional model, Aduana graduated with a degree in medical technology from Centro Escolar University-Makati. Hailing from Siniloan, Laguna, the beauty queen advocates for the transformative power of education as a platform to combat climate change.

This environmentally conscious approach is not unfamiliar to Aduana, who had previously captivated audiences at international beauty pageant events with her innovative fashion choices. Notably, she had stunned onlookers with a blue evening gown crafted entirely from recycled zippers.

As the eagerly anticipated coronation night approaches on December 22, Aduana sets her sights on securing the Philippines’ fifth Miss Earth crown. The current titleholder is Mina Sue Choi of South Korea, but Aduana aims to make a lasting impression and continue the country’s success on the Miss Earth stage.
