MANILA — The Philippines has secured a spot among the bottom feeders when it comes to compensating freelancers, according to a recent study.

Conducted by invoicing software company Bookipi, in conjunction with the freelancing platform Upwork, the study assessed 40 countries, revealing the Philippines in the dismal seventh position.

Freelancers in the Philippines earn an average of $106.70 per job, painting a bleak picture for independent workers.

Bookipi’s investigation encompassed various popular services like logo design, video editing, and data entry. They meticulously gathered pricing data, calculating average rates across different services in each country.

At the forefront of the stingy payment spectrum is Colombia, where freelancers scrape by with a meager $72.13 per job. Brazil ($79.81), Argentina ($80.84), Jamaica ($88.63), and Venezuela ($93.41) closely follow suit.

Surprisingly, even Germany, often hailed for its economic prowess, falls below expectations, ranking sixth with an average freelance rate of $102.35, trailing just ahead of the Philippines.
