MANILA — The Senate adopted a resolution on Monday (11 March 2024) to recognize and commend Dr. Carmencita Padilla for her receipt of the Order of National Scientist award.
Senator Pia Cayetano, author and sponsor of Senate Resolution No. 806, expressed gratitude to Dr. Padilla, highlighting her demonstration of compassionate leadership.
“Dr. Padilla has exhibited compassionate leadership and unwavering dedication in her pursuit of honor and excellence as the current Chancellor of UP Manila. She continuously explores innovative approaches for delivering health sciences and medical education to our Iskolars ng Bayan, while spearheading the establishment of various medical and laboratory facilities that serve patients of PGH and other hospitals nationwide,” stated Cayetano in her resolution.
“Her contributions to public health, particularly in medical research, education, and legislation, continue to inspire and improve the lives of Filipinos across the nation,” she added.
On August 31, 2023, Dr. Carmencita Padilla was conferred with the Order of National Scientist Award (Ang Orden ng Gawad ng Pambansang Alagad ng Agham), the highest national recognition bestowed upon a scientist in the Philippines.
“She has made significant strides in public health through medical research, notably in the advancement of genetic technology, which has played a pivotal role in the enactment of crucial health policies,” Cayetano emphasized.
