MANILA — Dwight Howard and Andray Blatche, both former NBA stars, are set to join Andre Roberson, a former Oklahoma Thunder wingman, as they lead Strong Group in representing the Philippines at the 2024 Dubai International Basketball Tournament scheduled from January 19 to 28 in the United Arab Emirates.

Howard, recently playing for Taoyuan Leopards in Taiwan’s T1-League, brings a wealth of experience after his successful stint, earning accolades such as T1 League All-First Team, rebounds leader, Most Valuable Import, and All-Star Most Valuable Player.

As a member of the 2020 NBA title-winning Los Angeles Lakers, Howard aims to enhance Strong Group’s performance, which reached only the quarterfinals in the previous edition.

Teaming up with Blatche, known for his contributions as Gilas Pilipinas’ naturalized player, the duo brings a formidable frontcourt to the squad.

Blatche’s memorable moments include reinforcing the Philippine team in the 2014 FIBA World Cup, achieving silver in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championships, and gold in the 2017 SEABA championships.

Coach Charles Tiu also disclosed the addition of Roberson, a 6-foot-7 wingman known for his defensive prowess.

The team, backed by owners Frank and Jacob Lao, anticipates the arrival of the trio early next week for the start of practice.

Other local talents joining Strong Group include UAAP Season 86 Most Valuable Player Kevin Quiambao, St. Benilde’s Allen Liwag, Justine Sanchez, and Tony Ynot, University of the Philippines playmaker JD Cagulangan, and Green Archer Francis Escandor.
