MANILA — The Philippines achieved a remarkable feat on Friday (01 Mar 2024), setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest variety of pork dishes served during the Hog Festival in Quezon City, organized by the National Federation of Hog Farmers Inc. (NatFed).
A staggering total of 313 unique pork dishes graced the tables, surpassing Guinness’ minimum requirement of 300.
The monumental achievement was officially recognized by Guinness Official Adjudicator Sonia Ushirogochi, who presented the World Record Certificate. However, out of the initially submitted 341 dishes, 28 were disqualified for not meeting the stringent Guinness guidelines.
NatFed Chairman Chester Warren Tan expressed optimism about the record’s impact, foreseeing it as a catalyst for local hog farmers to expand their operations, thereby increasing pork production.
Tan emphasized that the goal extends beyond mere production growth, aiming also to elevate the country’s per capita consumption of pork from the current 13 to 14 kilos to a target of 16 to 17 kilos.
Moreover, Tan highlighted the festival’s role in promoting tourism by showcasing the rich culinary heritage of the Philippines through its diverse array of pork dishes. This record-breaking accomplishment not only celebrates the nation’s love for pork but also signifies a significant milestone in the realm of culinary excellence.
