MANILA — Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesperson BGen. Jean Fajardo announced on Monday (11 Nov 2024) that Pastor Apollo Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) has been granted medical furlough.

Fajardo explained that Quiboloy had been experiencing “irregular heartbeat,” which doctors have deemed “life-threatening.”

The pastor was brought to the hospital on November 8, in accordance with a Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) order.

“Noong last November 7 po kasi nag-complain po ng chest discomfort si Apollo Quiboloy, that prompted po ng PNP General Hospital to conduct a medical examination. Lumabas po doon sa regular examination na kinonduct po ng health service ay mayroon po siyang irregular heartbeat that may be considered as life-threatening,” Fajardo said during a press conference.

The PNP official also stated that the health service has recommended further evaluation of Quiboloy’s condition.

While Quiboloy was scheduled to return to the PNP custodial center today, the Court has extended his medical furlough until November 16.

MANILA — Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) Pastor Apollo Quiboloy stated that the Senate hearing conducted on Wednesday (Oct 23, 2024) was “not fair.”

“‘Yung mabibigat na alegasyon nila, walang mga katotohanan. Kailangan patotohanan nila sa korte where I can defend myself and malaman ang katotohanan. Because this committee is not the committee to decide whether I am guilty or not. It should be the court of law.”

The Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality, headed by Sen. Risa Hontiveros, led the investigation.

Quiboloy pointed out that no resource person from his side was present during the hearing.

“This is like a trial by publicity. Eh wala kaming resource person. Walang galing sa amin. Galing lahat doon sa kabila,” he said.

This marks the first time Quiboloy has appeared before the Senate panel.

MANILA — Appearing for the first time at a Senate hearing, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, the leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), vehemently denied allegations of sexual abuse as the investigation by the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality got underway.

Speaking before the committee, Quiboloy challenged his accusers, stating they should file formal charges if they believe their claims are valid.

“There is no truth to what they are saying. In my view, their allegations are the opposite of reality. I urge them to file a case because these are criminal allegations,” Quiboloy declared, emphasizing his readiness to confront the accusations in court.

The hearing marks a significant moment for Quiboloy, as it is the first time he has publicly addressed these serious allegations.

The Pasig City Regional Trial Court granted him permission to attend the Senate investigation, which focuses on accusations of human trafficking and sexual abuse tied to his ministry.

In addition to the sexual abuse allegations, Quiboloy also refuted claims that he solicited financial support from children to fund KOJC operations and his personal lifestyle.

“These accusations are baseless and meant to tarnish my reputation and the work of our ministry,” he asserted.

The Senate hearing follows a series of reports involving the KOJC, which has been under scrutiny for alleged misconduct. The testimonies of victim-survivors presented during the hearing highlighted disturbing accounts of abuse, prompting lawmakers to delve deeper into the practices of religious organizations and their accountability.

As the investigation continues, Quiboloy’s future remains uncertain, with public attention focused on the Senate’s findings and the potential legal ramifications for the pastor and his ministry. Quiboloy maintains his innocence and has called for a thorough examination of the allegations, asserting that he will cooperate with the legal process as needed.

The case raises broader questions about the protection of vulnerable individuals within religious organizations and the responsibilities of authorities to investigate claims of abuse seriously.

As developments unfold, both supporters and critics of Quiboloy are closely watching how the Senate committee will respond to the testimonies and whether further legal actions will be taken.

MANILA — The Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 169 has denied the request from the camp of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, for him to be placed under house or hospital arrest.

This was confirmed by Quiboloy’s legal counsel, Atty. Israelito Torreon, during the arraignment of the pastor’s non-bailable qualified human trafficking case at the Pasig RTC on Thursday, October 17, 2024.

Atty. Torreon said they received an order from Pasig RTC Branch 159 dismissing their request. He also mentioned that they plan to file a motion for reconsideration, hoping for a more favorable outcome.

“We received this morning an order denying it. So we intend to file a motion for reconsideration,” Torreon stated.

He did not elaborate on the reasons behind the court’s decision.

MANILA — The Workers’ and Peasants’ Party (WPP) strongly denied on Wednesday (09 Oct 2024) that it issued a Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) to self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God” Pastor Apollo Carreon Quiboloy, who is currently detained on charges of human trafficking and sexual abuse.

“I am not aware of who signed his CONA. Only three individuals are authorized to sign on behalf of WPP: the Chair, the President, and the Senior Vice President. As President, I can confirm that I did not sign any CONA for Quiboloy,” said lawyer Sonny Matula.

The WPP president added that he asked their Chair, Atty. Ariel Arias, and Senior Vice President Dr. Oscar Morado, and both claimed they had “no knowledge” of signing a CONA on behalf of the controversial televangelist, who is wanted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Quiboloy’s counsel, Atty. Mark Tolentino, showed reporters a notarized copy of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) received by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) at the Manila Hotel Tent City.

The form, signed by Quiboloy, indicated that he was nominated by the WPP.

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) confirmed on Tuesday (08 Oct 2024) that Pastor Apollo Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) has filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for senator through his lawyer, Atty. Mark Tolentino.

Comelec chairperson George Garcia confirmed the filing when asked if Quiboloy had submitted his COC for the senatorial race.

Garcia previously stated that anyone is free to file a COC as long as there is no final verdict on their cases.

Quiboloy is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Detention Facility in Camp Crame, Quezon City, due to multiple charges, including child abuse and human trafficking.

Today, October 8, marks the last day for filing COCs.

MANILA – An alleged former member of the “Angels of Death,” the purported private armed group of detained Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy, is now under police custody.

The individual, currently held by the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 in Davao, has confirmed the group’s existence and reported threats and harassment against Quiboloy’s victims aimed at preventing them from disclosing his abuses, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo on Friday.

“These are allegations, and we will let the court decide whether these claims have merit. However, this individual has provided information that may corroborate the testimonies given by the victims, mentioning specific cases that we cannot disclose at this time,” Fajardo said during a press briefing at Camp Crame.

Fajardo noted that the PNP is thoroughly verifying whether this individual is indeed a member of the “Angels of Death.”

An initial verification from the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office revealed that some alleged members of the “Angels of Death” listed by PRO-11 have registered firearms in their names.

The PNP is also investigating reports that Quiboloy has given female members of the group as “gifts” to his friends.

“We need to gather statements from the victims who were allegedly passed on by Quiboloy to these prominent individuals. We cannot rely on hearsay. We are in the process of documenting all these allegations and are prepared to file cases against those who are found culpable, regardless of their status,” she added.

She emphasized that those involved in this activity may face charges related to qualified human and sex trafficking.

Quiboloy is currently detained at the PNP Custodial Facility in Camp Crame, while his four co-accused have been transferred to the Pasig City jail.

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is preparing to file charges against individuals who allegedly sheltered Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.

PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil has ordered a full investigation to identify and hold accountable those involved in harboring the Pastor.

“We will not tolerate any form of obstruction of justice,” Marbil stated.

“Our investigation aims to identify those who knowingly provided refuge to Quiboloy, and we will ensure they face appropriate legal consequences,” he added.

Marbil also claimed that Quiboloy could not have evaded authorities without the assistance of close associates, including his legal team, who allegedly misled police about his whereabouts.

“Obstruction of justice is a serious offense. Those who helped shield Quiboloy from law enforcement will be charged accordingly. The law is clear: no one is above it, and those who aided Quiboloy will be held accountable,” Marbil said.

Quiboloy has pleaded not guilty to charges of child abuse and human trafficking. His four co-accused have also entered not-guilty pleas.

MANILA — Self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God” Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy on Friday (13 Sept 2024) pleaded not guilty to charges of qualified human trafficking at his arraignment at the Pasig City Regional Trial Court branch 159.

His five co-accused — Jackielyn Roy, Cresente Canada, Paulene Canada, Ingrid Canada, and Sylvia Cemane — also pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Quiboloy and his co-accused surrendered to authorities last Sunday more than two weeks after police raided the 30-hectare Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Buhangin, Davao City,

Quiboloy, a close friend and spiritual adviser of former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte, was accused of trafficking female KOJC members, some as young as 12 years old, to sell goods and raise funds for the church.

Reports said some female members have accused the KOJC leader of molestation, alleging the pastor said it was their way of getting into heaven.

On Thursday (12 September 2024), the Philippine National Police (PNP) said five more persons have come forward accusing Quiboloy of rape.

Quiboloy’s qualified trafficking charges, being handled by the Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 159, are non-bailable.

The KOJC leader is also facing charges of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion, and sex trafficking of children; conspiracy; and bulk cash smuggling in the United States.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla earlier said he expected the US to request Quiboloy’s extradition “very soon.”

MANILA – Apollo Quiboloy, leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), has surrendered to authorities after a 16-day standoff at his church compound in Davao City, according to a senior police official.

Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11) Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III confirmed on Monday that Quiboloy’s attempted deceptions to evade capture came to an end.

During a press briefing at Camp Crame, Torre revealed that negotiations led to a delay of the planned assault on the ACQ College of Ministries, where Quiboloy and his associates, including Jackielyn Roy, Ingrid Canada, Cresente Canada, and Sylvia Cemañes, were believed to be hiding.

The operation was postponed to accommodate security preparations for the Bar Examinations, but by Sunday morning, Torre deployed 500 Special Action Force (SAF) and 500 Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) officers to the site.

The buildup prompted Quiboloy’s group to signal surrender at 10 a.m., with final capitulation occurring at 5:30 p.m. The group was transported by military aircraft from Davao City to Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, arriving at Camp Crame for medical examination and booking at around 9:10 p.m.

Torre noted that the 30-hectare KOJC compound was tightly secured to prevent any escape. “It’s a relief that this situation was resolved without further risking lives,” Torre said, attributing the resolution to divine intervention.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil supported Torre’s statement, revealing that police were confident Quiboloy had remained within the compound despite numerous deceptive tactics.

Marbil noted that surrender offers, which were later found to be misleading, were made several times.

Quiboloy and his co-accused, masked and under custody, were shown to the media. The police have returned the arrest warrants for charges of sexual abuse and qualified human trafficking to the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 106 and the Pasig RTC Branch 159, respectively.

The five detainees are now held at the PNP Custodial Center.

MANILA — House leaders commended law enforcement authorities for the arrest of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, the self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God,” who has long been wanted on charges of sexual abuse and human trafficking in both the United States and the Philippines.

ACT Teachers Party-list Representative and House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro urged the government to ensure Quiboloy faces prosecution.

“The arrest of Apollo Quiboloy must lead to full accountability before the law. The charges against him, both in the United States and the Philippines, are serious and demand thorough investigation and prosecution. Justice must be served for the victims of these heinous acts,” Castro stated.

Gabriela Representative Arlene Brosas also emphasized that Quiboloy “is not a god” and called for those who aided the cult leader to be held accountable.

“This includes a comprehensive investigation into the possible involvement of individuals in positions of power who may have shielded him from facing justice,” Brosas added.

Meanwhile, Ako Bicol Party-list Representative and House Appropriations Committee Chair Elizaldy Co praised the PNP’s use of ground-penetrating radar during the operation.

“This is the first time I’ve heard of this kind of radar being prominently used by our law enforcement,” Co said.

He added, “The House leadership, under Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, will ensure the PNP is allocated more tactical field equipment in their annual budgets. The PNP also requires additional air assets, including unmanned drones equipped with ground-penetrating radar and infrared night vision.”

MANILA — Senator Risa Hontiveros has sent a strong message to Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, stating that he cannot escape justice.

Hontiveros made this statement following Quiboloy’s arrest on Sunday (08 Sept 2024) night.

“Mananagot ka, Apollo Quiboloy. You cannot outrun the law. Justice will no longer be delayed,” the senator said.

“Justice is now within reach for the victim-survivors, thanks to their courage in speaking the truth.”

Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos shared the news in a post, which included a photo of Quiboloy with law enforcement officers.

Hontiveros also praised law enforcement agencies for their “tireless efforts and dedication, despite Quiboloy’s attempts to evade justice.”

“The Senate investigation will continue to put an end to the systematic abuse of the most vulnerable in society,” she added.

“The days of those who act like tyrants, violate the law, and abuse women, children, and our fellow Filipinos are numbered,” Hontiveros concluded.

MANILA — Taking notice that Vice President Sara Duterte earlier claimed that self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God” Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy was no longer within the 30-hectare Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound where her father former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte serves as its administrator, a lawmaker on Monday (9 September 2024) has raised the possibility that they could be held liable for obstruction of justice.

House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability chairperson and Manila Rep. Joel Chua pointed out that “no one is above the law,” including those who once held the highest positions of power in the country.

“The arrest of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy within the vast Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City raises serious concerns about the integrity and accountability of those who have direct ties to this controversial preacher,” Chua noted.

“Moreover, Vice President Sara Duterte’s previous statements downplaying Quiboloy’s presence in the compound now appear to be misleading, if not intentionally deceptive,” he added.

Chua further noted the assurance given by the Vice President that Quiboloy was no longer within the compound “calls into question her credibility and suggests an attempt to shield the preacher from justice.”

“Such actions, if proven, would not only obstruct the course of justice but also erode public trust in our officials,” the Manila Solon said.

“If the Duterte family played any role in protecting or enabling Quiboloy during his time as a fugitive, they must be held accountable, just like any other citizen,” Chua emphasized.

MANILA — The elusive and controversial leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, who has long proclaimed himself as the “Appointed Son of God,” has finally been apprehended by authorities.

Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, currently in Dubai on official business, confirmed the arrest on Sunday evening.

“Nahuli na si Pastor Quiboloy!” Abalos announced in a Facebook post, accompanied by a photo of Quiboloy alongside his legal counsel, Israelito Torreon.

Quiboloy, a close spiritual adviser to former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, faces multiple serious charges, including violations under Section 5(b) and Section 10(a) of Republic Act 7610, the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.

In addition, Quiboloy has been charged with qualified human trafficking, a non-bailable offense under Section 4(a) of Republic Act No. 9208, as amended. This case is pending before a Pasig court.

The arrest of Quiboloy follows years of accusations, including allegations of sexual abuse, child exploitation, and money laundering, leading to a 2021 U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) probe that resulted in Quiboloy being placed on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.

Despite the gravity of the charges, Quiboloy had managed to evade arrest for years due to his influence and strong political connections.

MANILA — Emphasizing that there is “no turning back” until fugitive self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God” Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy is arrested, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos on Saturday urged the spiritual adviser of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to surrender and face the sexual abuse and human trafficking charges against him.

The DILG issued the appeal following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s rejection of Quiboloy’s conditions for his surrender, likening it to the “tail wagging the dog”—an attempt to dictate terms to the government.

“Please, I appeal to you, and this is the appeal of everyone: surrender. As you’ve said, you are deemed innocent until proven guilty in court. But we have a warrant, and that warrant is in the case of People of the Philippines v. Apollo Quiboloy,” Abalos said.

Kingdom of Jesus Christ legal counsel Israelito Torreon claimed on Thursday, August 29, 2024, that there is a threat to Quiboloy’s life as he faces possible “extraordinary rendition”—state-backed kidnapping—to the U.S., where he is also facing charges.

“You say you have no guilt; there’s a process for that, and it’s in court. Surrender and face the accusations. That’s my stance—surrender,” Abalos added.

Notably, neither Quiboloy nor his lawyers have provided evidence to support claims of a conspiracy between the U.S. and the Marcos Jr. administration to extradite him to America for trial.

No Guarantee

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Saturday stated that no one in the government can guarantee that fugitive pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy will not be turned over to the U.S. if arrested and if America requests his extradition.

Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez highlighted the Philippines’ obligation under its extradition treaty with the U.S., which allows Washington to request a provisional arrest.

“Because it’s our obligation. We have an extradition treaty, so regarding his request for a guarantee—strictly speaking, no one in government can give that guarantee,” Vasquez said during the Saturday News Forum at Dapo Restaurant in Quezon City.

He explained that extradition is different from extraordinary rendition, the state-backed kidnapping that Quiboloy claims he fears.

It was noted that under the 1994 treaty, requests for extradition should be sent through diplomatic channels and must be supported by documents such as statements and details of the alleged offense, a copy of the judicial warrant, and the charging document.

Quiboloy is facing charges in the United States for conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, coercion, and fraud, as well as sex trafficking of children.

MANILA — Authorities will persist in serving the arrest warrant against Kingdom of Jesus Christ Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, according to the spokesperson for the task force assigned to this mission.

PLt/Col Jerick Filosofo noted that today, Friday (30 Aug 2024), marks the seventh day of their efforts to serve the warrant at the KOJC compound in Davao City. He emphasized that they will continue until the pastor is located and apprehended.

“Hangga’t hindi po namin nakukuha si Pastor Quiboloy, patuloy pa po naming i-iimplement ang warrant of arrest against sa kanya,” Filosofo said in a radio interview.

He added that the area is vast and the facilities are complex, making the search challenging. Specific details on the number of hectares searched were not provided, nor was a timeframe for completing the search of the 30-hectare area.

Despite the lawyer’s statement that Quiboloy has left the premises, Filosofo believes the pastor remains in the KOJC compound.

“Our intelligence reports and other indicators suggest that Pastor Quiboloy is still at the KOJC,” Filosofo said.

MANILA – Amid the ongoing search for fugitive self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God” Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy on his 30-hectare property in Davao City, the lawyer for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) has revealed that Quiboloy, a controversial spiritual adviser to former President Rodrigo Duterte, is reluctant to surrender due to concerns about being extradited to the U.S. to face charges there.

According to reports, the U.S. Department of Justice charged Quiboloy in 2021 with sex trafficking, accusing him of exploiting girls and women aged 12 to 25 as personal assistants, or “pastorals,” who were allegedly coerced into sexual acts with him.

“Mayroong takot na maaaring dalhin siya sa Amerika para sa extraordinary rendition nang hindi nasusuri ang kanyang pagiging inosente dito sa bansa. Kaya nga humiling si Pastor na sana magbigay ng written declaration si Presidente Marcos na hindi siya madadala sa Amerika,” KOJC legal counsel Israelito Torreon said on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

In June, the Department of Justice (DOJ) charged Quiboloy with sexual abuse. The KOJC founder, along with five other defendants, faces charges of qualified human trafficking and other acts of child abuse.

MANILA — A religious group on Thursday (29 August 2024) called on Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) Pastor Apollo Quiboloy to surrender to authorities.

“It is essential to recognize that no one is above the law. Facing accusers and investigations peacefully is a fundamental principle of justice. We urge the Philippine National Police to exercise restraint and uphold human rights throughout this process, ensuring all actions taken are measured and just,” the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches said in a statement.

Authorities continue to serve an arrest warrant against Quiboloy at the KOJC compound, where some police officers have reportedly been injured.

Complaints have been filed against the pastor for sexual abuse and human trafficking.

The group’s National Director, Bishop Noel Pantoja, appealed to government leaders to act “as peacemakers and not leverage the issue for political gain.”

“The pursuit of justice should not be marred by political divisions; instead, it should foster unity and healing within our communities,” Pantoja added.

“Together, let us work towards a resolution that honors justice, upholds human dignity, and fosters a spirit of peace within our nation.”

MANILA – Two lawmakers from Davao have called for a thorough investigation in aid of legislation following reports that police rescued human trafficking victims from the 30-hectare compound of fugitive Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, the self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God.”

In separate statements on Monday, House Assistant Minority Leaders Cheeno Miguel Almario and Migs Nograles expressed deep concern over the incident, which occurred as police attempted to serve an arrest warrant against Quiboloy at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound.

“We are alarmed that when authorities enforced a valid arrest warrant for Apollo Quiboloy at the KOJC compound, they discovered alleged victims of human trafficking. This clearly indicates that there is substantial evidence supporting the accusations against him,” Almario said.

Nograles echoed Almario’s sentiments, commending the authorities for their decisive action.

“I applaud the authorities for rescuing these young individuals. However, I strongly condemn any attempts to defend or downplay the severity of these crimes. Human trafficking is a grave offense that cannot be dismissed or ignored. Allowing it to occur on one’s premises is serious, but being complicit in such heinous acts is an even graver offense,” Nograles stated.

Quiboloy, who has been named KOJC Administrator, is also the spiritual adviser of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

“Pastor Quiboloy did not act alone. We must ask: Who are his accomplices? Who managed the property, knew of its operations, and allowed such crimes against humanity to take place?” Nograles questioned.

MANILA – Malacañang has voiced its support for the ongoing police operations targeting fugitive Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy, asserting that the rule of law must prevail.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin emphasized that Quiboloy must face legal consequences, dismissing claims that the operation is politically motivated.

“He is answerable to the law; the law must take its course. We have a process for that,” Bersamin stated when asked about the pastor’s evasion.

Quiboloy, along with five other KOJC members, faces charges of child abuse and human trafficking. Courts in Davao City and Pasig City have issued warrants for their arrest.

In a raid conducted early Saturday morning, Philippine National Police (PNP) officers searched the expansive 30-hectare KOJC compound in Davao City, which includes a cathedral, a school, residential areas, a hangar, and a taxiway connected to Davao International Airport. However, Quiboloy was not found.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reassured the public that Davao International Airport remains fully operational. “All commercial flights are proceeding as scheduled. Passengers should arrive at the airport well in advance and coordinate with their airlines for any updates,” CAAP stated.

Authorities are working closely with CAAP to ensure the safety and security of all passengers at Davao airport.
