Volunteers from the Eco Waste Coalition, donning “Zombasura” costumes, gathered at the entrance of Manila North Cemetery on October 26, 2023, in an effort to promote a Trash-Free Undas 2023 ahead of the upcoming celebration.
The group initiated the “Basura mo, Bitbit mo” campaign, aimed at keeping the cemeteries free from the excess waste generated by the millions of visitors paying their respects on All Souls’ Day (November 1) and All Saints’ Day (November 2). It’s a common sight that, post-celebration, tons of trash accumulated within the cemeteries, memorial parks, and columbariums.
Concurrently, the Manila Police District (MPD) is actively monitoring Manila’s North Cemetery while also reminding the public of the necessity to observe health protocols at all times.
