MANILA — In a proactive move to ensure public safety during the upcoming New Year celebration, Manila Police District (MPD) PCP Commander P/Major Bernardino Diaz Venturina displayed confiscated illegal fireworks that were being illicitly sold in the bustling Divisoria area on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos has taken a strong stance on the matter, passing an ordinance urging local government units (LGUs) to prohibit the use of fireworks.
Abalos emphasized that several LGUs have already implemented total bans on fireworks within their municipalities, opting instead to designate specific areas for authorized fireworks displays.
In a recent statement, Abalos underscored the importance of prioritizing public safety during festive occasions.
The confiscated fireworks serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to curb the unauthorized sale and use of pyrotechnics, aligning with the broader initiative to promote safer and more regulated celebrations.
