Globe has fired up four new cell towers in the municipality of Liloan, Cebu, home of the world-famous Rosquillos, significantly enhancing connectivity and digital access for local communities.

This development is seen to benefit residents in the coastal town, particularly in Brgy. Tayud, a remote industrial area that hosts two of these towers. The other facilities are located in Brgy. San Vicente and Brgy. Yati.

Previously limited to sparse 4G and 5G coverage, the three communities now experience a significant boost in mobile and internet services, enriching their daily lives and opening up new opportunities for growth and development.

With the additional network infrastructure, locals can explore more remote work, engage in online learning, and embark on e-commerce ventures through social media and other digital platforms. Businesses can also employ digital solutions to increase productivity and operational efficiency.

“We are unwavering in our commitment to expanding our network to ensure that more Filipinos have access to reliable and fast internet, no matter where they are,” said Joel Agustin, Globe SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering.

“This initiative is set to uplift people’s quality of life, bolster local businesses, and drive economic growth in Liloan,” he added.

Brgy. Tayud, which supports Liloan’s shipyards and shipbuilding activities, stands to gain immensely from this upgrade. As the barangay is far away from the city center, the activation of the two towers can help bridge the digital divide for its 22,000 residents.

Among the areas the cell sites cover are Tayud Barangay Hall, Corbox Corporation, Apollo’s View (ground level), Amara, Gallardo’s Venue, and Makaloka Beach Resort.

In Brgy. San Vicente, the new tower benefits nearly 13,000 residents, while the tower in Brgy. Yati provides improved connectivity to 37,000 residents.

Since Brgy. Tayud and Bgy. San Vicente have been identified as flood-prone areas due to rising sea levels, Globe’s new builds could also play a vital role in disaster preparedness and response such as aiding in early warning systems and coordination of relief efforts.

Another immediate benefit for residents of the three barangays is easier access to the municipality’s LiveLoveLiloan App, which offers a range of services, including an online marketplace for local vendors, emergency services, and an electronic transport system.

Globe’s continuous investment in network infrastructure is part of its mission to ensure that all communities in the Philippines can fully participate in and take advantage of the digital economy.

Globe Business leverages the power of robust connectivity and innovative technology to power Ugbo 24/7, a new culinary venture of former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

Ugbo 24/7 pays homage to the popular street food culture of Ugbo Street, Tondo, one of Moreno’s favorite food digs in his home city. His restaurant offers a concise menu featuring affordable signature dishes such as Tumbong, Camto, Dila, and Lechon Kawali.

This new dining hotspot endeavors to bring the beloved gastronomic delights of Tondo closer to a wider audience. Located at One World Square, McKinley Hill, Taguig City, Ugbo 24/7 particularly aims to bridge Tondo delicacies to the dynamic workforce of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector and its nearby residents.

Globe Business steps in as a crucial enabler for Ugbo 24/7’s digitalization journey. By providing a comprehensive suite of connectivity and business applications, Globe Telecom’s B2B arm supports the restaurant’s operational needs and growth ambitions.

The partnership encompasses a phased service implementation, starting with existing Fixed Broadband and Mobile solutions made to power the food hub’s connectivity. This is followed by the deployment of advanced tools such as Inquiro for data analytics, Rush eStore for end-to-end online selling platform, and m360 for multi-channel communication services.

“We are excited to support Ugbo 24/7 as they unlock their full business potential. We do this by providing them the essential technological backbone that enhances productivity and overall business performance, powered by Globe’s reliable connectivity. Our role is to ensure that Ugbo 24/7 can operate seamlessly and efficiently, enabling them to focus on delivering quality dining experiences to their customers,” said KD Dizon, Head of Globe Business.

“Drawing from my personal experience – after a long day at work, I always look for “feel good food” that is affordable, delicious and satisfying. In launching Ugbo 24/7, my goal was not only to offer a taste of Tondo’s best but also to ensure that our food remains flavorful and enjoyable without breaking the bank.” Former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno mentions as he invites everyone to visit his new venture.

Emphasizing the importance of technology in enhancing his business operations, Moreno also shared, “Partnering with Globe Business equips us with the tools we need to understand our market better, streamline our operations, and expand our reach. Their support is invaluable in helping us achieve our vision for Ugbo 24/7.”

This collaboration reflects the commitment of Globe Business to empower MSMEs to thrive in today’s digital era. By leveraging the strengths of Globe Business’s connectivity and ICT capabilities, Ugbo 24/7 is well-positioned to achieve operational success and deliver exceptional service to its customers.

Globe receives the SDG Award for Planet for progressively reducing the company’s greenhouse gas emissions as part of its Net Zero Program. Kua, GCNP Board Trustee.

Leading digital solutions platform Globe received the prestigious SDG Award for Planet at the 3rd Annual Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Awards for its impactful Net Zero program focused on the use of renewable energy (RE).

The SDG Awards, hosted by Global Compact Network Philippines, celebrates private sector contributions to advancing the UN SDGs. They are given to participating companies of the UN Global Compact that have made outstanding achievements in their sustainability programs under the four categories of People, Planet, Prosperity, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

The SDG Award for Planet highlights Globe’s proactive measures in significantly reducing Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, a critical step in its ambitious goal to contribute in reducing global emissions by half in 2030 and achieve Net Zero by 2050. This achievement is particularly commendable considering the high energy demands of the telecom industry.

“This award not only serves as a significant milestone for Globe, but it also reinforces our dedication to integrating climate action into our network operations, showcasing how businesses can contribute in addressing global challenges,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer of the Globe Group.

“Our ongoing efforts to adopt sustainable energy sources are a testament to our commitment to align our business goals with the broader global agenda for a sustainable future.”

Globe has been steadily increasing its sites shifted to RE, starting with high-energy utilization facilities and continuously improving operational energy efficiency. In 2019, the company embarked on a decisive phase of its decarbonization journey by adopting a strategy of sustainable power purchasing of RE, coupled with verified emission reduction certificates through Power Purchase Agreements (PPA). To date, Globe has shifted a total of 25 sites to renewable energy through PPAs.

The measures adopted by Globe not only adhere to the national renewable energy programs but also support the Philippines’ goal under the Paris Agreement for a 75% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. They are also in sync with national priorities on climate action and comply with industry standards set by the GSMA, the international mobile industry association.

Globe’s commitment to greening its operations has already earned several recognitions, notably the Most Sustainability Driven Mobile Network Operator in the Philippines in 2022. It is a testament to the company’s relentless pursuit of environmental protection as it integrates climate action into its network operations.

Globe is also a Participant in the United Nations Global Compact and has committed to uphold the Ten Principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. It also supports 10 out of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, with particular focus on SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 13 – Climate Action. As a Participant to the #RaceToZero campaign of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Globe has committed to set a science-based target through the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
