MANILA — In a demonstration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s commitment to achieving peace and prosperity in Mindanao, P3.5 billion worth of transitional cash assistance and other socio-economic packages have been provided to 26,145 decommissioned Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) combatants.
This was revealed by Presidential Adviser on Peace Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. at the Saturday News Forum at Dapo Restaurant in Quezon City.
“Unang una, ang guidance niya (Marcos) is full commitment to the completion of the peace process. Pangalawa, sabi niya is talagang ibuhos natin ang suporta particularly sa Bangsamoro kaya ngayon nakikita namin ‘yung lahat ng LGUs (local government units), they are allocating resources particularly sa Bangsamoro,” he said.
Galvez added that about 4,625 weapons have also been decommissioned.
Additionally, some P602 million worth of projects have been completed in 33 core barangays in six MILF camps, he disclosed.
Meanwhile, in the government-Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) peace process, Galvez reported that 1,802 combatants have completed the verification and socioeconomic profiling process and received P90 million worth of transitional cash assistance.

MANILA — Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. issued a call on Friday (02 Feb 2024), urging all Filipinos to dismiss any attempts to destabilize or divide the country.
He emphasized that national unity is indispensable for achieving development.
“In our unity as Filipinos lies the foundation for peace, development, and prosperity. Conversely, division among our people leads to instability, underdevelopment, and disorder,” stated Galvez in a released statement.
Galvez, the government’s top peace adviser, denounced calls for the separation of Mindanao from the Philippines, branding them as “contrary to the principles outlined in the Philippine Constitution,” which serves as the bedrock of the nation’s identity.
He underscored that such actions run counter to the principles of a nation that has benefited from the comprehensive peace process, effectively putting an end to decades of armed conflict in Mindanao.
“As Filipinos, let us continue to lend our support to the peace, reconciliation, and unity agenda of the Marcos administration. The fruits of peace are tangible and are being experienced by all,” he added.
Galvez highlighted the active participation of former members of revolutionary groups in the nation-building process, emphasizing that Mindanao has transformed from a region of volatility, violence, and armed struggle into a symbol of hope, understanding, and solidarity.
“We cannot afford to regress in our pursuit of lasting peace. Drawing from the lessons of the past, let us, as peace-loving citizens, consistently choose the path of unity and peace. This is the only way to propel ourselves forward as one cohesive people and nation,” concluded Galvez.
