MANILA — A portion of the second floor of St. Peter Apostle Parish Church in Tungkong Mangga, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, collapsed, leaving 44 individuals injured.

According to the city’s Public Information Office, the incident occurred during the 7 a.m. Ash Wednesday Mass.

“Witnesses reported a scream followed by shouting, after which a section of the second floor collapsed,” stated the PIO.

The San Jose del Monte City Police Station, Bureau of Fire Protection, City Engineering Office, City Traffic Management-Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group, City Health Office, and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office promptly responded.

Meanwhile, Mayor Arthur Robes visited the church to assess the situation and ensure all those involved in the accident were taken to the hospital.

Mayor Robes assured that the local government would cover the medical expenses of the 44 victims.

“We are also providing medical treatment to our fellow citizens who were injured and affected by this incident,” stated Robes.
