MANILA — After Captain’s Peak went viral, photos of Sagbayan Peak and Bud Agta also flashed on social media but luckily for them, they were discovered to have acquired their respective environmental compliance certificates (ECCs).

Some staff of Sagbayan Peak and Bud Agta can only heave a sigh of relief as they may be able to retain their jobs, unlike their counterparts at the Captain’s Peak.

“Siyempre baka pati kami pagdiskitahan. Pero baka hindi rin kasi kumpleto naman kami ng papeles, lalo na yung ECC,” one of them said.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Ma. Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga on Friday (15 March 2024) also noted that the public played a big part in putting to light the challenges faced by the environment.

“What we can do is be proactive as what we’re doing now in looking into other areas in this region, but concentrating on Chocolate Hills first. Kasi mukhang ang daming kailangang tingnan pa in terms of the other establishments operating,” Yulo-Loyzaga said.
