MANILA –Security company NordPass in their recent study unveiled the Top 200 Most Common Passwords that were used by internet users.

The company partnered with several researchers who specialized in cybersecurity to analyze passwords from a 6.6TB database.

These passwords seem to be stolen by various stealer malware like Redline, Vidar, Taurus, Cryptbot, and others.

With that, the researchers analyzed the malware logs which included the passwords and its source website. These passwords were listed on the list as the most popular passwords per platform type.

“Researchers classified the data into various verticals, which allowed them to perform a statistical analysis based on countries,” the company said.

NordPass reiterated that they have no access to internet users’ data and they only gathered statistical information and analysis from the researchers.

Among the Top 10 on the list are 123456, admin, 12345678, 123456789, 1234, 12345, password, 123, Aa123456, and 1234567890.

According to NordPass, the password ‘123456’ is the world’s worst password as it ranked as the most common password in their study 4 out of 5 times.

“Researchers say that while passwords are getting harder to breach due to rapidly evolving technologies, malware attacks are still seen as a prominent threat to account security,” the company stressed.

NordPass also warned the users to keep their passwords in check by using complex passwords, never reusing passkeys, and regularly assessing their health whether it’s weak, old, or strong.
