MANILA — Lawyer Hubert Dominic Guevara, who recently transitioned from his role at Malacañang to resume his position at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) earlier this month, tragically passed away on Friday (March 29) at the age of 56.

Guevara, formerly a senior deputy executive secretary under the Office of the President, assumed the role of SEC commissioner on March 1, succeeding Kelvin Lester Lee, who headed the markets and securities regulation department.

His return to the SEC marked a significant milestone, more than ten years after his tenure as director of the agency’s erstwhile Compliance and Enforcement Department, now recognized as the Enforcement and Investor Protection Department.

Guevara, a former managing partner at Joaquin Guevara Adarlo & Caoile Law Offices, also contributed to academia, imparting his knowledge at various private learning institutions, according to the corporate regulator.

Having obtained his bachelor’s degree in legal management from Ateneo de Manila University, he further pursued his legal education at the same institution.

Appointed as one of the four commissioners, Guevara received accolades from SEC Chairman Emilio Aquino for his “decades of experience in the executive branch and in the private practice of law.”
