MANILA – According to the latest update from the state weather bureau, the Philippines is set to enjoy another day of fair weather today, Thursday (18 April 2024).

Aldczar Aurelio, a forecaster from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), explained that the country is currently influenced by the ridge of a high-pressure area and the easterlies.

PAGASA anticipates isolated rain showers throughout the archipelago due to localized thunderstorms. However, severe thunderstorms could potentially lead to flash floods and landslides.

High temperatures are still on the forecast, reaching up to 38°C in Tuguegarao and up to 35°C in Metro Manila, Puerto Princesa, Zamboanga, and Davao.

In specific areas, a heat index between 42 to 45 is expected. This heat index indicates what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.

Locations where such temperatures are forecast include:

Dagupan City, Pangasinan
Mariano Marcos State University in Batac, Ilocos Norte
Bacnotan, La Union
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
Isabela State University in Echague, Isabela
Tayabas, Quezon
Ambulong in Tanauan, Batangas
Sangley Point, Cavite

Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
Aborlan, Palawan
Virac, Catanduanes
Roxas City, Capiz

PAGASA advises that a heat index between 41°C to 51°C is considered dangerous, increasing the likelihood of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke with continued exposure to the sun.

Meanwhile, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected to prevail across the country.
