MANILA – On Labor Day, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reiterated his commitment to supporting the working class in their pursuit of improved working conditions and a better quality of life.

In a statement released by the Office of the President on social media Wednesday (01 May 2024), Marcos expressed gratitude for the tireless efforts and sacrifices of Filipino workers, recognizing their pivotal role in driving the nation’s progress.

“From the bustling cities to the remote fields in the countryside, it is the labor of the Filipino that propels us forward, fueling our economy and sustaining the very fabric of our society,” Marcos remarked.

“On this significant occasion, we acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our industrious men and women, whose resilience and determination have propelled our nation’s development. We also honor those who have advocated for social justice, championing the rights of workers and ensuring their efforts are duly acknowledged and rewarded,” he added.

The President affirmed the government’s unwavering support for the working class, emphasizing the core principles of fairness, dignity, and equality in all workplaces.

“Indeed, as we embark on the journey towards a Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines), we envision a future of greater prosperity, where opportunities abound, and every worker is valued, respected, and empowered to flourish,” he stated.

Marcos is set to lead the Labor Day festivities in Malacañang, where he will recognize outstanding workers and unveil the master plan for the upcoming Workers’ Rehabilitation Center Complex under the Department of Labor and Employment.

Meanwhile, Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. of the Department of National Defense (DND) echoed the nation’s appreciation for Filipino workers’ vital role in the country’s development.

“Today, as the Philippines joins the global celebration of Labor Day, the Department of National Defense stands in solidarity with the Filipino people, recognizing the significant sacrifices and contributions of Filipino workers, both at home and abroad,” Teodoro conveyed in a message to reporters.

He also stressed the importance of supporting peace and security initiatives, emphasizing that a stable and secure environment is essential.
