On May 7, the sad news emerged that cherished actress Susan Buckner has departed this life at the age of 72.

Buckner’s portrayal of Patty Simcox in the iconic film ‘Grease’ endeared her to many. As the perky, well-meaning cheerleader alongside Olivia Newton-John’s character Sandy, she left an indelible mark on audiences.

According to a statement from Buckner’s family, the actress peacefully passed away on May 2, surrounded by loved ones. Melissa Berthier, a spokesperson for the family, conveyed this to People magazine.

In an emotional tribute, Buckner’s daughter, Samantha Mansfield, described her mother as not just a parent but her closest confidante. She reminisced about the radiant energy her mother brought into every space, lamenting the irreplaceable loss.

Before gracing the silver screen, Buckner had a successful stint in pageantry. Crowned Miss Washington in 1971, she subsequently represented her state in the Miss America pageant, as reported by Deadline.

Transitioning from pageantry, Buckner joined The Golddiggers, an ensemble of talented women showcased on The Dean Martin Show, per Deadline’s account.

In her later years, Buckner’s passion for the arts extended to nurturing young talent. People magazine notes her role as a director at a children’s theater in Florida, where she mentored budding performers. Additionally, she shared her expertise as a dance instructor at a gym in Coral Gables.

The cause of her passing has not been disclosed publicly.

She leaves behind a legacy cherished by her two children, Samantha and Adam, four grandchildren, and her longtime partner, Al.
