MANILA – The Philippines braces for warm and humid conditions on Thursday (02 May 2024), with the potential for danger level heat indices in at least 39 areas, according to the weather bureau.

“Due to the influence of El Niño, warm and humid weather is anticipated across the nation. Isolated afternoon or evening rain showers are possible,” stated Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Temperatures could soar to 37°C in Metro Manila and Tuguegarao.

The highest heat index is forecasted to reach 48°C in Pili, Camarines Sur, while Dagupan City, Pangasinan, could experience a heat index of 47°C.

Areas expecting heat indices ranging from 42°C to 46°C include:

PAGASA warned that heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and potentially heat stroke could occur under danger level heat indices of 41°C to 51°C with prolonged sun exposure.

Meanwhile, fair weather is expected across the archipelago due to the easterlies, though localized thunderstorms may bring isolated rain showers.

PAGASA also forecasts light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas across the country.
