AMID THE FUROR over what appeared to be a “ram-and-run” incident in Scarborough Shoal in the West Philippine Sea that claimed the lives of three Filipino fishermen, House Speaker Martin Romualdez has called for “patience and understanding” as the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is trying to determine whether it was deliberately done by oil tanker MV Pacific Anna and consciously left the victims without giving them assistance.

“It is paramount that we, as a nation, trust our institutions and refrain from speculating, ensuring the investigation proceeds without hindrance,” Romualdez said.

According to the PCG’s monitoring, it showed that only the MV Pacific Anna passed through the area where FB Dearin was in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

After talking with the survivors, the PCG has been trying to contact the owner of the MV Pacific Anna which is registered in the Marshall Islands and was traveling from South Korea to Singapore.

On Wednesday, October 4, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. vowed that those responsible for the ramming incident in Scarborough Shoal (last October 2) would be held accountable. (ai/mnm)
