FORMER Marikina City Mayor Bayani “BF” Fernando was laid to rest at Loyola Memorial Park – Marikina on the morning of September 27.

Prior to his interment, a Holy Mass took place at the Queen of Angels Chapel in Riverbanks, Marikina City.

The 7 a.m. Mass was officiated by Rev. Fr. Lamberto Ramos, the rector of the shrine and parish administrator of the Diocesan Shrine and the Parish of Our Lady of the Abandoned, respectively. During the service, Rev. Fr. Ramos suggested that instead of mourning, they celebrate the life of the remarkable public servant known as Bayani Fernando.

Following the Mass, family members, friends, supporters, and the general public showered flowers as uniformed pallbearers carried Fernando’s casket from the Queen of Angels Chapel.

At around 9 a.m., a funeral parade and procession escorted Fernando’s casket to its final resting place at Loyola Memorial Park. The interment ceremonies were led by Rev. Fr. Joselito A. Santos, the parish priest of San Jose Manggagawa Chapel.

In honor of the former legislator, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted a gun salute, accompanied by the simultaneous blaring of sirens. (Jr Amigo/ai/mnm)
