Electric Kick Scooter Philippines (EKS PH) Co-Founder and mobility advocate Timothy ‘Tim’ Vargas supports safety and protection by donating 20 mountain bikes to the Makati City Police Station’s bike patrol this Monday, July 8.
The initiative was led by the main donors, Tim Vargas and his wife, Michaella Vargas, along with Robert Yang Sy and Attorney Gregorio Larrazabal.
These brand new bikes will be given to the substations 5 and 6 of Makati City and will be used for their safety and protection effort called “bike patrol.”
These stations were specifically chosen to be the receivers as they are in need of bike patrols because of the high number of visitors and clients going to the said stations.
According to Vargas, he once promised PMAJ Anthony Bagsik that he would help donate bikes to bike patrollers in case they would need them in the future.
“Naipangako ko kay Major Bagsik na kung kailangan ng bike for bike patrol or whatever, tapos ayon nung April nag-message siya, sabi ko “sige, i-deliver natin,” he said.
Vargas then thanked the people behind the collaboration and for the opportunity to help with the protection efforts for the Makatizens. He also expressed his hopes for more upcoming projects like this initiative in the future.
Along with this, COP Police Colonel Edward Catiyog also expressed his gratitude to the donors, stating that this will help the efforts of the Makati police to promote safety and protection in the city by using the bike patrol.
“I will assure na itong mga 20 bikes na ito ay magagamit to its maximum para sa maintenance ng peace and order dito sa Makati,” Catiyog said.
He also added that this initiative of using bikes while patrolling will give a new opportunity for the police to talk and be closer to the community, unlike using four-wheel vehicles that are fast and won’t make you notice the people.
“This was realized dahil may memo tayo na paigtingin ang tourist bike patrol. Napakasaya natin ngayon dahil magagamit natin itong bikes. I’m sure yung mga gagamit nito ay mag-eenjoy rin dahil bago. It’s not second-hand, bago,” he stated.
Catiyog also hopes that this will just be the start and that the initiative will be continuous for new projects to start.
“Again, I would like to thank yung mga donors natin, maraming salamat po at sana tuloy-tuloy ito. Sa pag-support at pagtulong ninyo sa Makati City Police Station, maipakita din natin sa ating mga Makatizens na we serve, we protect para sa peace and order dito sa Makati,” he ended.
The donated bikes were created and sponsored by Electric Scooter Philippines, Light Electric Vehicle Philippines, and Move As One Coalition.
