MANILA — As expected, Thea Gagate was the first pick in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League (PVL) rookie draft, held at Novotel Manila Araneta in Quezon City on Monday (08 July 2024). She will play for Zus Coffee, previously the Strong Group team.

“I’m very honored and grateful for being the top pick,” said Gagate, a three-time Best Middle Blocker from the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

Other top picks included Leila Cruz (Capital1), Julia Coronel (Galeries Tower), and Maicah Larozza (Farm Fresh). The draft featured 12 teams with rookies dressed elegantly for the occasion.

Nxled selected Lucille Almonte at No. 5, while Akari chose Steph Bustrillo. Other first-round picks were Rochelle Lalongisip (Cignal), Angelica Alcantara (PLDT), Karen Verdeflor (Chery Tiggo), Antonette Adolfo (Petro Gazz), Lorraine Pecaña (Choco Mucho), and Aleiah Torres (Creamline).

The draft also included Sharya Ancheta, Nikka Yandoc, and Jen Zeta for Zus; Roma Mae Doromal and Gilliana Torres for Capital1; and Jewel Encarnacion, Dodee Batindaan, and Danivah Aying for Galeries. A total of 47 players participated.

The PVL Draft Combine was held on June 25-26 in Mandaluyong City. The Reinforced Conference will begin on July 16 at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
