Former Deputy Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Martin “Bebot” Diño, has passed away following a courageous fight against cancer.

Liza Diño-Seguerra, his daughter and former Chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, as well as an entertainment columnist for Manila Times, shared the news on Tuesday via Facebook.

He was 66 years old.

Surrounded by his loved ones, Diño peacefully passed away at 2:15 a.m. His daughter, Diño-Seguerra, revealed that he had been battling stage 4 lung cancer for more than a year.

“With heavy hearts, we inform you of the passing of our dear Martin Diño, former undersecretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG),” Diño-Seguerra conveyed on behalf of their family. “After enduring acute respiratory failure, he valiantly confronted stage 4 lung cancer for over a year.” (ai/mnm)
