MANILA — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced on Thursday (08 Feb 2024) a rise in power rates for February.

The adjustment, amounting to P0.5738 per kiloWatt hour (kWh), brings the overall rate for a typical household to P11.9168 per kWh, up from P11.3430 per kWh in January, as reported by the power distribution company.

For residential customers consuming 200 kWh, this adjustment translates to an increase of approximately P115 in their electric bill.

Meralco attributes this increase to a higher generation charge of P7.1020 per kWh in February, compared to P6.6468 per kWh in January.

This uptick stems from increased power costs incurred by the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Power Supply Agreements (PSAs).
