MANILA – Reiterating the need to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista has said that he is very excited to work with the winning bidder which they expect to announce in the first quarter of 2024.

On Wednesday (December 27), the DTI announced that four groups had submitted bids for the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of the NAIA.

The bidders were identified as the Manila International Airport Consortium, Asian Airport Consortium, GMR Airports Consortium, and SMC SAP & Co.

Bautista reiterated the need to upgrade the “congested” NAIA, explaining that it only has a 32 million annual passenger capacity.

He noted that the NAIA already hit nearly 50 million passengers.

With this continuing influx, the DOTr expects annual passenger capacity to reach 60 million with the rehab project.

Bautista disclosed that they will check the technical qualifications and financial capacity of the bidders in the weeks to come.
