MANILA — Rains are expected to persist in various parts of the Philippines, driven by the easterlies and the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” according to the latest report from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday 03 Feb 2024).
The easterlies are anticipated to bring cloudy skies along with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental.
Additionally, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi are likely to experience similar weather conditions due to the trough of the low-pressure area (LPA). PAGASA cautioned that moderate to heavy rains in these regions may lead to flash floods or landslides.
Simultaneously, the northeast monsoon is expected to bring light rains to Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon, with isolated light rains projected for the Cordillera and Ilocos regions, as well as the rest of Central Luzon.
For the remainder of the country, including Metro Manila, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are anticipated with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms attributed to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also highlighted that moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are expected over the eastern sections of Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. In contrast, the rest of the archipelago will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
Temperature projections indicate a range of 21°C to 31°C in Metro Manila, 14°C to 23°C in Baguio City, 21°C to 29°C in Laoag City, 24°C to 30°C in Legazpi City, 24°C to 30°C in Metro Cebu, 24°C to 31°C in Puerto Princesa City, and 24°C to 31°C in Metro Davao.
